Elise Brimhall is the Education Program Manager at KUED, and oversees the Ready To Learn initiative and all education outreach. She joined KUED the summer of 2011 after receiving a Master of Arts in Child Advocacy at Montclair State University. Prior to receiving her Masters, Brimhall taught preschool, second grade, and sixth grade after receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Westminster College.
Brimhall manages the longstanding national PBS initiative, Ready To Learn, which includes Ready To Learn Family Nights hosted at 30 Title I elementary schools in Granite and Salt Lake School Districts and Head Start preschools. After seeing a community need for more quality parent and child interactions, she strategically moved Ready To Learn in the direction of Family Nights where the whole family benefits from engaging hands-on activities, each child takes home a book, and families eat dinner together. With this shift toward parent and family engagement, KUED’s Family Nights saw a 37% increase in people reached.
Brimhall coordinates over 100 community events and programs each year reaching Utah children, families, and educators, including participation in education conferences like UEA, UCET, UELMA, and SUECON. To learn more about upcoming events, like the KUED Kids Annual Reading Marathon and KUED Kids Writers & Illustrators Contest, go to www.kued.org/events or www.kued.org/kids.
Brimhall serves on the advisory board for Salt Lake Education Foundation’s A Capital City Education, Salt Lake County’s Evidence2Success program in Kearns, Salt Lake County’s Talking is Teaching campaign, and Utah State Library’s Utah Kids Ready To Read initiative. She is a past advisory board member of Utah Afterschool Network, and UEN’s American Graduate project.
