Teaching Kindness to Kids
October is Kindness Month at KUED Kids! Teaching kids empathy, inclusion, and bullying prevention is essential in their early years of development. It is also important that parents and teachers recognize the signs of bullying and help put a stop to it in schools.
We hope that by providing parents with resources and teachers with educational materials to use within the classroom, we can help stop bullying before it starts. The following resources are just a few of many on PBS LearningMedia Utah that will explore teaching kindness, resilience, and empathy:
- Young Peace Leaders: Cultivating Self-Acceptance
- Young Peace Leaders: Cultivating Gratitude
- Young Peace Leaders: Cultivating Acceptance
- The Amazing Effects of Gratitude
- The Buddha Mindfulness: A Guide for Teachers
- Say Something: Educator Handbook
- Cultivating Leadership Through Self-Acceptance and Forgiveness
- Developing Empathy Through Retold Fairy Tales
In addition to these resources, episodes of MOLLY OF DENALI air each day on PBS KIDS, exploring Alaska Native values.
Also, check out this great article called "9 Tips For Teaching Kindness in the Classroom" from PBS Teachers Lounge.
Help us spread kindness all month long by using the using the resources from the Kindness and Empathy hub at PBS KIDS for Parents.
