Healthy Habits - Missy's Ants on a Log

Hey! My name is Missy and I’m a guest blogger here at PBS KIDS Utah. I’m a fine artist and illustrator, and I’m also a big time foodie!

I love food, I love to eat, I love trying new food, I love snacking, and I love when something that tastes good is also good for my body! These three snacks are tasty AND healthy. And they are easy for kids to make all by themselves. My mom and grandma taught me to make these when I was a kid.

Making Ants on a Log

Supplies for “Ants On A Log”:

  • Celery cut into ~4” sticks
  • Peanut butter
  • Raisins
  • A spoon

“Ants On A Log”

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Get a spoonful of peanut butter. And carefully spread it along the “canyon” of each celery stick.
  3. Place raisins along the peanut butter.
  4. Eat and enjoy your “Ants On A Log.”

This is such a fun snack for kids to "cook" or make on their own! There are countless recipes you can find online or in books from the library. When I cook something myself, I think it almost makes it taste better! Also, don’t forget to clean up after yourself. Put away any leftover peanut butter, cottage cheese, toothpicks, etc. And rinse off any spoons and dishes you used. And, for good measure, wash your hands one more time!
