Spread the Love by Crafting this Valentine's Day!

Spending time with loved ones and friends by making homemade cards, decorations, and crafts is a great way to spread love this Valentine's Day! Whether you're helping with a class party or crafting with your kids at home, we have lots of fun ideas to celebrate and get into the spirit of the holiday. We've come up with a list of our favorite hands-on Valentine activities that will be fun for kids to do in the classroom and at home.

  • Print and color PBS KIDS Valentine cards. These sweet Valentine's Day cards have all your favorite PBS KIDS characters and will be fun for kids to show all their friends how much they care!
  • Make heart wreaths out of hangers. The making of these colorful hearts took nothing more than wire hangers (the kind you get from the dry cleaner), colored paper napkins (as we didn’t have tissue paper), some beads, and yarn!
  • Tissue paper stained glass. Try out this easy and customizable stained-glass art project at home. Hearts are featured below, but you can use whatever shapes and corresponding colors you choose.
  • Citrus peel roses. Celebrate Valentine's Day with these beautiful citrus peel roses! Place them in a bowl with other dried items for decoration.
  • Homemade "heart felt" stamps. Finding successful and safe ways for children to make their own stamps always feels extra satisfying. Why not try craft foam? Craft foam can easily be cut with small (and not-so-sharp) children’s scissors and absorbs ink/paint nicely for printing. Here’s a simple technique for creating stamps that could be applied to many artistic pursuits for multiple ages.
  • Watch Peg Meets Cat/The Valentine's Day Problem. PBS Kids is showing new episodes of Peg + Cat on Monday, Feb. 10 - Monday, March 16. Check your local listing for show times. We have a feeling your kids are going to "love" it!
