Summer Camp - Collage Rainbow

Hello, hello! It’s guest blogger Missy here, with another fun art project to wrap up summer! Sometimes, I like a clean pristine drawing or painting. Other times, it's fun to use your imagination and create something totally unique and imperfect. There's a special beauty I find in imperfection. This collage rainbow is a great mix of beauty and imperfection.

Collage Rainbow

  • copy/printer paper
  • pencil
  • old magazines
  • glue stick

  1. On your paper, use your pencil to lightly draw a simple rainbow with six curved lines.

  2. Look through your old magazines and rip out parts of pages with various - shades of : red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Each piece needs to be about 1” square.

  3. Start with your red pieces and glue them along the top line on your paper.

  4. On the next line down, glue your orange pieces.

  5. Do the same for yellow on the next line, then green, then blue, and last, purple.

  6. Have fun!

Using different shades of each color and patterns within those colors, makes for a more interesting rainbow. If you want to explore further, you can make collages of different simple shapes: a collage flower, a collage sunshine, a collage heart, or even a collage of your pet. Enjoy the creative imperfection of this project. Have a great day!
