Winter Celebration - Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice is celebrated on December 21 and is the shortest day of the year. It also means that the days start to get longer, and we get to enjoy more hours of sunlight. Honor the light in your lives this winter with these crafts and activities.

• Watch the sunrise and sunset with your kids. Since it's the shortest daylight of the year, many of us will already be up with our kids before the sun has even risen. Mark the time the sun comes up and goes down, then do the math to see how long we had sunlight.

• Check out these books from your local library to celebrate winter: 8 Children's Books to Celebrate Winter. Then, cuddle up on the couch with blankets and hot chocolate to read together as a family.
• Make luminarias to light the way to your front door by putting tea candles inside mason jars or paper bags.
• Whether you're cozy inside watching it snow, or the sun is shining where you are, your child can celebrate the Winter Solstice by making their own winter wonderland terrarium.
• Write notes to your family, friends, and neighbors to let them know how they bring light and joy into your life and deliver them on the Winter Solstice.
