KUED Announces SPACE Theme to 2019 Writers & Illustrators Contest

Press Release

The KUED Kids Writers and Illustrators Contest returns in 2019 for its 18th year, and is now accepting submissions. The annual contest strives to foster creativity and literacy in young Utah artists and writers. This year, KUED is proud to partner with the Natural History Museum of Utah. The contest is for children in grades K-6. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 2019 contest’s theme is SPACE!

The contest submission window is open and stories will be accepted now through April 15. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to submit original stories, complete with a minimum of five illustrations. Individual children or classes may submit stories. Stories can be fact or fiction, prose or poetry, as long as they are on our theme of SPACE. Judging is based on creativity, writing, and illustrations. Word count specifics (based on grade), ideas on creating a good story, and the entry form can be found on KUED’s contest website, kued.org/writers.

Winners will enjoy a day with their families at the Natural History Museum of Utah, have their stories published online, and get to participate in a traveling art exhibit hosted by the Utah Division of Arts and Museums! Winners will also receive an invitation to a special celebration and prizes from local organizations such as Utah’s Hogle Zoo, Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, and others.

Winners will be announced in May.
