Missy's "Run Cat Run"

Email share

Hey there! It’s Missy, artist and guest blogger, back for one last time with a fun arts and crafts project for you to create. I always loved pop-up books and interactive style books when I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to create a little piece like that.

Supplies

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Markers
  • A brad
  • A cup (or something with a round base)

Instructions

  1. Take your paper and pencil. Draw a line across the middle of the page.
  2. Along that line, draw a cat’s head, body and tail.
  3. Color the cat with markers.
  4. Use your cup to trace a circle on another sheet of paper.
  5. Use your scissors to cut out the circle.
  6. Make a dot in the middle of your circle with your pencil. And punch a tiny hole through that dot with your scissors.
  7. Put the circle on top of your cat drawing. Make sure the hole is within the body area.
  8. Mark little pencil marks around the neck area and tail area where the circle ends. Also where the tiny hole is.
  9. Put your circle aside and use your scissors to cut a line from mark to mark on the bottom edge of the cat. And punch a tiny hole in the cat’s body where you made that mark.
  10. Now take the circle and draw a bunch of legs radiating out from the tiny hole. Make sure all the feet face the same direction that the cat’s head is pointing.
  11. Slide your circle into the cut space you created under the cat’s body. Line up the tiny holes you made in the circle and the cat body.
  12. Now put your brad through the tiny holes to hold it all together.
  13. Write “Run cat run!” at the top of the paper and write your name at the bottom.
  14. Move the circle to make the cat run!

Wrap Up

You can do this project with any type of animal or even a person. You could make a whole book of running creatures. Be creative and have fun!
