LGBTQIA+ Youth Mental Health Series

As young people, figuring out who we are is tough. For those of us starting to figure out where we fit among the LGBTQIA+ community, that journey can be even tougher. Do I need a label for my identity? How do I connect with other people like me? What if I feel like it’s all too much to handle? The good news is, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Utah has resources.

Join Andrés Larios Brown, licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as they guide us through some steps you (or the young people in your life) can take to explore your identities, build self love, and support your mental health along the way.

This series has been made in partnership with Encircle, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides support and counseling for LGBTQIA+ students and their families at multiple locations in Utah.

More Than Half | Starting the Conversation

With Utah’s high rates of sexual violence, one group is looking to equip teens with the knowledge needed to keep them safe. Teen Council trains high school students to become sex educators for their peers, teaching them about consent and healthy relationships.

In this episode, we hear from Teen Council members Lupita Mendez and Morgan Pinkney about the limited sex education many teens get in Utah. And they tell us about their experiences teaching other students about things like consent. We also hear from Teen Council facilitators Zoe Flavin and Meda Del Carpio about the importance of comprehensive sex ed and the impact of peer to peer education.
