PBS Utah Planned Giving
Welcome to PBS Utah Planned Giving—a journey that empowers you to leave a lasting impact on the world of public broadcasting right here in our state. Through your thoughtful and strategic giving, you can help ensure that PBS Utah continues illuminating, educating, and inspiring generations of Utahns. Explore the possibilities and rewards of planned giving with us and be part of securing a bright future for public television in Utah.
A Legacy Gift can be as simple as including a bequest provision in your will or trust, or naming PBS Utah as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement plan. Regardless of its size, your gift will make an impact in helping PBS Utah to grow and plan for the future.
If you’ve already made or are updating your estate plans and wish to include PBS Utah, the following language can be used:
“[I/We], [Name/Names], of [City], [State] [Zip Code], hereby give, devise and bequeath to the University of Utah, a body politic and corporate of the State of Utah and fiscal agent of KUED/ PBS Utah, [written dollar amount, percentage of the estate, or description of property]. The details and use of this gift will be memorialized in a separately executed gift agreement with the University of Utah. The University of Utah is a tax-exempt organization, both as a political subdivision of the State of Utah and a 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code. The University of Utah Tax EIN is 87-6000525.”

What to Give
You don’t need great wealth to leave a great impact. There are many thoughtful ways to support PBS Utah through a legacy gift and further your financial goals.
Cash
Giving cash is a simple and popular way to support PBS Utah now and in the future. Should you decide to give cash through your will or living trust, your estate may be able to claim an estate tax deduction.
Life Insurance
If you purchased a life insurance policy years ago to protect your family and your circumstances have since changed, that coverage may no longer be needed for its original purpose—and it could become a meaningful way to support PBS Utah. You can donate a paid-up or partially paid policy, which may offer an immediate tax deduction, or simply name PBS Utah as a primary or contingent beneficiary of an existing policy.
To get started, contact your insurance provider, request a beneficiary designation form, and include PBS Utah as the beneficiary of your policy.
Retirement Assets
Leaving pre-tax retirement accounts, like an IRA or 401(k), to PBS Utah is a smart way to make a big impact. Because PBS Utah is tax-exempt, it can receive the full value of the gift—something your family wouldn’t get if they inherited it, since they’d owe income taxes. It’s a simple way to reduce the tax burden on loved ones while leaving a lasting legacy for public media in Utah.
Gifts of Stock
Leaving stock to PBS Utah through your estate lets you create a lasting legacy while maximizing tax benefits—your gift can reduce estate taxes, avoid capital gains, and support public media for generations to come.
