Instructions

1. With the help of an adult, cut your avocado right down the middle and remove the seed.
2. Set your avocado seed out overnight to dry. You can eat the rest of your avocado.
3. Carefully peel off the outer layer of skin on the avocado seed.
4. Poke your 3 toothpicks into the seed at the fattest part, evenly spaced around the middle.
5. Place your seed over your mason jar so the toothpicks rest on the rim. Make sure the point end faces up.
6. Fill the jar with water to cover the bottom of the seed and set in a dark place for 4 to 5 weeks.
7. When roots begin to grow out the bottom, move it to a sunny place.
8. In about 7 weeks, the seed will crack and a small stem will appear at the top.
9. When the stem is about 4 inches high, plant the avocado in soil. Cover only the bottom half of the seed.
10. Water whenever the soil looks dry.
